Mount Snow is Vermont's closest major resort to people living in and around most of the northeast's bustling metro areas making for a short drive to real, big mountain skiing.
Founded in 1954 by National Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame member, Walter Schoenknecht, Mount Snow quickly became one of the most recognizable ski resorts in the world. Today, Mount Snow is owned by Peak Resorts which has invested more than $25 million in capital enhancements since the spring of 2007. The marquee elements of those enhancements are the installation of more than 250 high output fan guns - the most of any resort in North America - giving Mount Snow one of the most powerful and efficient snowmaking systems in the industry. And, making its debut in the winter of 2011/2012, the $8.5 million Bluebird Express - North America's only six passenger bubble lift.
Four Mountain Faces
The Main Face has predominantly intermediate terrain with wide open cruisers such as Snowdanceand Ridge as well as classic, New England style trails like Uncle's, Hop, and Shootout.
The North Face is home to Mount Snow's most challenging terrain with 10 black diamond trails and glades serviced by two dedicated triple chairs. Plummet, Jaws, Olympicand Chuteare local favorites, while the double black diamond trail Ripcordand the adjacent woods provide some of the steepest terrain in New England.
The south facing Sunbrook features an array of intermediate terrain basking in the sun. Thanks Walt, Cloud Nine and The Dipperscan all be accessed from the summit and the Sunbrook Quad. Spring mogul slayers flock to Beartrapwhere music blasts from the lift tower mounted speakers and the scene is always fun.
Carinthia is the #1 Terrain Park in the East (Freeskier Magazine, onthesnow.com), and with good reason. This all freestyle terrain mountain face is home to ten different terrain parks ranging in size from extra small features in Grommet to extra large features in Inferno as well as a 450'-long superpipe with 18' walls. New for 2012/2013 is The Farm: Phase 1; this unique terrain park is filled with every day things you see when visting the Green Mountain State like tractors, sugar shacks, etc. that have been set-up as terrain park features for you to jib, bonk and slide. Carinthia is served by three lifts including the Nitro Express high speed quad.
Vacationers can stay in a number of established B&Bs, inns, and hotels throughout the Mount Snow Valley.
