2014 US Ski-Orienteering Championships
Friday, March 14, 2014—US Sprint Ski-Orienteering Championships, afternoon starts, 3 courses of varying lengths (about 1.5K to 3K ) will be available, interval starts.
Saturday, March 15, 2014---US Middle Distance Ski-Orienteering Championships, morning starts, 4 courses of varying lengths (about 3K to 8K) will be available, interval start.
Sunday, March 16, 2014—US Long Distance Ski-Orienteering Championships, morning starts, 4 courses of varying lengths (about 5K to 15K) will be available, mass start with forking.
Ski-orienteering is a x-c ski race but instead of following a clearly marked route, racers find a series of checkpoints, choosing whatever route they think they can ski the fastest. The racer that finds all the checkpoints in the least time is the winner. The checkpoints are located on trails and marked on a trail map which the racer carries. Note that new trails will be added specifically for this event.
