Tough Mudders Set to Invade Mount Snow
WEST DOVER, VT (August 3, 2010) – Mount Snow has reached an agreement with Tough Mudder LLC to be a host site for one of their series events on May 7 & 8, 2011. Tough Mudder touts itself as the “toughest one day endurance race on the planet.” The courses are designed by former British Special Forces officers in conjunction with resort representatives and range between 7-12 miles long. Military style obstacles are built throughout the course ranging from mud pits to water features to fire walks and in Mount Snow’s case what else – snow. For those able to complete the course a Dogfish Head beer will await them at the finish line, their badge of honor for a job well done. An after party for all participants and spectators will ensue complete with live music, food and beverage.
Mount Snow and its surrounding valley were found to be an ideal location due to its close proximity to major metropolitan areas, difficult terrain features, already constructed mountain trail systems, accommodating local businesses and creativity in course design assistance. “We’re extremely excited to welcome the Tough Mudder event to Mount Snow and the Deerfield Valley. Tough Mudder has proven it has a successful business model and will provide an economic jolt to our area in a normally slow time of year. I couldn’t think of a more perfect event to host during ‘mud season’ here in Vermont. We look forward to putting on a great show and working with Tough Mudder for many years to come,” said Greg Fisher, Mount Snow’s Marketing Director.
Will Dean, CEO of Tough Mudder, heaped praise on the attributes that drew them to the venue, “The Tough Mudder team has scoured the country over the last 3 months looking for a venue with the most extreme terrain features and obstacles. At Mount Snow not only did we find the physical challenges we were looking for, but also a team that shares our brand values and vision to host the best event for our participants.”
The weekend will feature two separate events, one Saturday and the other Sunday. Event participants will be limited to five thousand per day and are expected to sell out quickly. Spectators and support teams are expected to bring the possible attendance for this event to approach 20,000 for the weekend.
A major component to the Tough Mudder experience is its charitable donations to the Wounded Warrior Project. Any participant who pledges to raise $150 for Wounded Warrior receives a discount off their registration. From their first event alone Tough Mudder raised over $200,000.
