West Dover, Vt. (May 20, 2013) – After almost 15 feet of snow fell from the sky this past winter supplemented by the nation’s most extensive arsenal of snowmaking fan guns, there are still a few piles of white stuff remaining at Mount Snow, so why not use it? Once again the resort plans to hold the annual Peace Pipe Jam using some of the big piles of snow that are left at Carinthia to build a rail garden for skiers and riders to enjoy at no charge on Monday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
After a one year hiatus due to the lack of snow in 2012, the park crew is looking forward to putting together one last set up before all the snow melts. Peace Pipe Jam started in 2008 as a fun way to take advantage of the pile of snow that was still leftover from the superpipe in late May. So the park crew smoothed it out, planted a couple of terrain park features and started to spread the word not really knowing if anyone would show up. When a huge crowd of skiers and riders arrived the day of the event, it was decided that as long as there’s snow Peace Pipe Jam will be an annual occurrence.
“We’re expecting at least a couple hundred kids that haven’t hung the skis and boards up just yet to show up and have some fun,” says Day Franzen, Mount Snow’s freestyle terrain manager. “We have some great sponsors on board this year so my crew and I will be handing out gear from them to anyone that throws down a trick we like, but it’s certainly not a competition, it’s all about fun.”
Peace Pipe Jam sponsors are Smith Optics, Neff, Nixon, Burton, Skullcandy, Crab Grab and Bern.
Mount Snow retail will be having a tent sale on the Carinthia base lodge deck. The event is free to participate in and the same rules apply as during the winter season including no dogs or coolers and always practice Smart Style.
