(Jay, VT)- On Friday, March 22 at 8 p.m., Hollywood actor and Northeast Kingdom resident Luis Guzman will present the Vermont premiere of his documentary, “The Nimby Project”, in the Foeger Ballroom at Jay Peak Resort. VP of Marketing and Sales Steve Wright commented’ “Luis is a friend, a Jay Peaker and a good Vermonter–we definitely support what he stands for and look forward to his project on March 22nd.”
Guzman is excited to return to Jay Peak.
“I’ll be talking about my life and career and present my documentary on going homeless in NYC”, states Guzman, who also lives part-time in the Lower Eastside where he grew up and worked as a social worker before his successful acting career.
Guzman is excited to be working with NEK Youth Services, who will be the recipient of proceeds of the evenings’ $15 ticket price.
“Giving back-I’ve been about that all my life,” Guzman adds.
“I am so pleased that NEK Youth Services has been chosen to receive the proceeds from Luis Guzman’s “NIMBY Project” event at Jay Peak”, said NEKYS Executive Director Marion Stuart. The event will help support NEK Youth Services ten-bed Elm Street Transitional House which provides homeless youth with safe overnight housing with an awake, overnight staff member.
Stuart says, “I am inspired by how Mr.Guzman has taken his passion to help homeless individuals and is engaging the community in a larger vision on how to be involved.”
About The Nimby Project:
“The NIMBY Project” is an inspiration from the documentary, “Not In My Backyard.” The documentary takes viewers into battered women and childrens’ shelters across America. Throughout the voyage, you see the reality of the women, teens and children who seek survival in a country that ignores this epidemic. This is the first time cameras were allowed in the shelters, let alone the underground shelters. Producer and human rights activist Jacquelyn Aluotto produced the documentary, not only to expose the truth, but to give 100% of the proceeds to save these shelters. The movement is building momentum with celebrities, activists, communities and artists across the nation. Renowned actor Luis Guzman is a spokesperson for the “Not In My Backyard” documentary.
