First Snow at Stratton Mountain

Stratton's summit saw the season's first glorious glimpse of fresh white powder this morning.
Summit temperatures dipped just below the freezing point over night, leaving a coating of a little over an inch of snow on the upper mountain while those at the bottom of the mountain contemplated cranking on the heat in their homes.
Seeing the first flakes in the beginning of October is a welcome sign of the cold and snowy winter predicted by meteorologists and the Farmers' Almanac. Skiers and riders have just 44 days to wait for first tracks, as Stratton's opening day is slated for November 21.
