Easy drives, reliable trains, direct flights or chartered bus services make traveling to Vermont's renowned ski areas easy and affordable. In fact, winter in Vermont welcomes six times the state's population in visitors seeking mountain vacations for adventure, relaxation and rejuvenation. No matter which mode of transportation you choose, snowy adventures are only a few hours away.

Vermont resorts are an easy, convenient drive from anywhere in the East. Interstates 89, 91, and Vermont Route 100, the fabled skiers' highway, provide direct access to our mountains and villages. Vermont Transit, part of the Greyhound system, connects Vermont communities with Boston, Montreal and New York daily.

By Plane
With excellent air service, Burlington International Airport is a convenient point of access to northern and central Vermont resorts. Major air carriers include JetBlue, United, US Airways Continental and Delta. For those who prefer charter flights or have a personal aircraft, take advantage of the stellar service of Ski Vermont’s private aviation partner, Heritage Aviation in Burlington. Ski Vermont is again partnering with Porter Airlines for direct-flight winter getaways from Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport.

Visitors to central and southern resorts can easily fly to Albany, Boston, Hartford, Manchester, NH and Rutland, VT. Gateway cities for international visitors include Boston, New York, Montreal, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Rental cars are available at all airports and many resorts offer ground transportation.

NORTHERN VERMONT SKI RESORTS

Bolton Valley
“The biggest challenge we see families facing when they go skiing is their proximity from their car to where their lodging is and then from the lodging to the lifts,” says Josh Arneson, director of marketing and sales at Bolton. “We completely eliminate both of those factors because of our ski-to-your-door lodging and walkable village. Those who stay with us literally park their car and forget about it. Once at Bolton, everything is within walking distance, making it convenient and easy for families to keep their brood corralled and still have fun at the same time.” Convenience also means just a short 10 minute drive from I-89 to the resort, and an easy 30-minute drive from Burlington and the airport.

Burke Mountain
Spending a little extra time on the road will mean lots of extra time on the slopes. With 55 trails and glades located just seven miles off of Interstate 91, Burke Mountain is one of the quickest, easiest drives to a real Vermont skiing experience. It’s an all interstate 3-hour drive from the heart of Boston, 3.5 from Hartford, and only 2.5 hours from both Montreal and Portsmouth.

Smugglers’ Notch Resort
If flying or traveling via train, how do guests of Smugglers’ Notch Resort close the 45 minute drive gap between the Burlington International Airport or the Essex Amtrak station and the Resort? They can choose to be met by friendly van drivers and whisked to the Resort by arranging for a transfer in advance through the Resort’s vacation planning specialists.  Once at the Resort, guests can easily go car-free: getting around is simple on the complimentary on-demand shuttle service operating within the Resort Village, while the Mountain Shuttle loops every 20 minutes between the Village and the upper mountain base area. 

Vermont’s highways are well-maintained for visitors who choose to drive to the resort. For folks piloting their own car from points south or east of the Resort, the optimal route involves taking Route 100 into Morrisville and heading west on Route 15, bypassing Route 108 that leads into Smugglers’ Notch Pass. The reason? The narrow winding pass is closed in the winter, making the drive around the mountain to the Resort not only the fastest but also the most direct route. Stowe Mountain Resort
It's not hard to find Stowe. Since the ski area shares its name with the town, there's no confusion about where you're headed and the “Ski capital of the East” is an easy, enjoyable trip from just about anywhere. Located in north-central Vermont, Stowe Mountain Resort is 40 minutes from Vermont's largest airport, 15 minutes from Interstate 89, and 15 minutes from the Amtrak train station.

CENTRAL VERMONT SKI RESORTS

Killington Resort and Pico Mountain
Killington Resort is one of the largest regional destination resorts in the Northeast and is easily accessible by plane, train and automobile. JetBlue expanded its marketing partnership with Cape Air at Boston's Logan International Airport to include new service to Rutland, Vermont - a 30 minute drive from the slopes of Killington Resort. Through the JetBlue-Cape Air alliance, customers can book travel on a single itinerary to Rutland from top domestic destinations that connect through Boston including New York/JFK, Washington/Dulles, Pittsburgh, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.

Around Killington, Vermont's largest mass-transit network "The Bus" provides convenient and comfortable transportation to lodging properties, restaurants and businesses on Killington's famed access road. In addition, The Bus provides regional service to Rutland and the dining and shopping opportunities Vermont's second largest city has to offer.

For those driving from points south and east of Killington, the Skyeship Gondola offers quick access to the slopes daily, while eliminating the 12-mile round trip to the Killington basin access points.

Mad River Glen

Middlebury College Snow Bowl
A smooth ride to skiing and riding at the Snow Bowl is assured. Route 125 is one of two east–west routes to pass through the Green Mountain National Forest; it leads the way to the Snow Bowl and was completely rebuilt in 2010 so folks can enjoy a smooth drive. 

Sugarbush Resort
Located in the heart of Vermont minutes from Montpelier and just under an hour from Burlington, Sugarbush is easily accessible from any direction. Sugarbush is exactly 3 hours from downtown Boston, 5 hours from New York City and 2.5 hours from Montreal. Air service is available into Burlington International Airport from major metropolitan areas and resort staff can arrange transport to and from the airport. 

SOUTHERN VERMONT SKI RESORTS
Bromley Mountain Resort, Magic Mountain, Mount Snow Resort, Okemo Mountain Resort, Stratton Mountain Resort

Bromley Mountain Resort
Bromley Mountain is in the southwest corner of southern Vermont, making it one of the closest big mountain resorts to the New York metro area and, without question, the closest resort to New York's Capitol Region. Bromley is also just 2.5 hours from Hartford and three hours from Boston.  And as long as we're talking proximity, consider that Bromley Mountain's just a few minutes' drive from Manchester's famous designer outlets and about an hour from Brattleboro. Magic Mountain
With a mountain this challenging, it’s nice to know the drive there is easy. Magic’s legendary terrain and authentic Vermont ski experience is less than 200 miles from New York, Hartford, Boston, and Albany. Whether coming for a powder day, weekend, or a week-long vacation, Magic is conveniently located in southern Vermont so it’s an easy escape. Then when you get here, you’ll find you’ve also escaped the hassle of crowded lift lines and ski slopes—all for some of the best values in New England skiing.

Mount Snow Resort
As the southern-most resort in Vermont, Mount Snow is less miles from every major metro area in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island which means it takes less fuel to get here.  The resort is only 29 miles off Interstate 91. Albany, NY, Manchester, NH, Hartford, CT and Rutland, VT airports are all within a two hour’s drive. Amtrak services Brattleboro, VT, just 26 miles from Mount Snow.

Okemo Mountain Resort
You can get to Okemo by plane, train or automobile! The readers of SKI Magazine consistently rank Okemo Mountain Resort among the Top Ten Resorts in the East for accessibility. Situated in south-central Vermont, Okemo is just a gas tank away for skiers and riders driving from major metropolitan areas such as Boston, New York and Hartford. Cape Air and JetBlue serve Rutland, Vt., with daily flights from Boston, and from Manhattan via White Plains, N.Y.,  to West Lebanon, N.H. Amtrak’s Ethan Allen Express from New York City serves nearby Rutland as well, just 25 miles away.

Stratton Mountain
Stratton Mountain Resort is nestled high in the Green Mountains, but a short and scenic drive will land you at the base of the highest peak in southern Vermont. Visit by car, train, plane, caravan - no matter how you choose to travel to Stratton, all you need are your feet to get around this no-car-needed resort. Lodging, dining and shopping are all at hand in the resort’s slopeside Village.

Stratton is a 3 hour drive from Boston, 4 hours from New York City and 2.5 from Hartford, CT. Trains run to Albany, Rutland and Brattleboro; Cape Air and Jet Blue fly into Rutland (45 minutes away).
