Jay Peak Resort

Jay Peak Resort today announced that the Vermont Symphony Orchestra will play at the resort on Saturday, June 30th. The performance is part of the VSO’s TD Bank Summer Festival Tour and is the second show in Jay Peak’s Summer Music and Arts Series. The first large-scale concert to be held at Jay Peak in decades, the VSO’s appearance will also serve as the official Grand Opening of the new Hotel Jay.

“Because we opened the Hotel Jay in phases throughout the winter, we never had a chance to have any kind of Grand Opening celebration,” said resort president and co-owner Bill Stenger. “When the opportunity to be a part of the VSO’s summer tour presented itself, it seemed the perfect way to mark one of the largest projects in our history and our first full summer of operation.”

The concert will be held on the green between the Hotel Jay and the Tram Haus Lodge with the symphony’s stage being constructed at the bottom of the Interstate trail. Gates to the show will open at 5:30pm for those wishing to picnic with the show slated to begin at 7:30pm. Guests are encouraged to bring low-slung chairs as no formal seating will be provided, as well as flashlights. No outside alcohol will be permitted into the concert. The resort will have a food and wine tent set-up in the concert area.

“We’ve hosted the VSO’s Holiday Chorale group the last few Decembers, but it’s been a few decades since the whole orchestra came to Jay Peak for one of their summer performances and we’re really looking forward to the show,” continued Stenger.

The evening’s program will include works from Tchaikovsky, Sullivan, Strauss and more with a huge fireworks display to close out the evening. If the weather is questionable, a decision about moving the performance indoors will be made in the early afternoon of the show. The information will be announced on jaypeakresort.com, vso.org, local radio stations, VPR, and by calling the Hotel Jay's front desk at 802-327-2160. If rain is expected, the concert will be held at the North Country Union High School.

Tickets to the June 30th performance can be purchased at jaypeakresort.com or by calling the front desk at the Hotel Jay at 802-327-2160.
