Family Holidays in January at Stowe Mountain Resort

STOWE, Vt.

Starlight Snowshoe Tour: This will be a first for Stowe Mountain Lodge this winter, which our recreational department is really excited about. This tour will catch last chair on our Sensation Quad and begin at the top of the lift to snowshoe to Sterling Pond, Vermont’s highest living alpine lake. The tour will snowshoe across the lake at dusk and then snowshoe down remote ski trails. This tour is offered to people ages 10 and up and is for all abilities. It’s great because it eliminates the two-hour hike straight up the mountain to see some of the most spectacular scenery and views in the area. The tour also includes a hot chocolate and hot apple cider break. The tour also includes snowshoes and a headlamp.

Evening Snowshoe Tour: This is our most popular night tour at the lodge and involves a variety of locations when the sun goes down and the lifts stop. The tour brings guests to either Bingham Falls, Sterling Peak, around the Stowe Mountain Golf Club or to Ranch Valley where our cross country center is located and the birthplace of skiing here in Stowe (an amazing night spot). This tour also includes a hot chocolate and hot apple cider break, snowshoes and a headlamp. All abilities and ages.

Smugglers' Notch Tour: This tour takes guests from the bottom to the top of the Notch road, which is closed to cars in the winter,  and then back down to the base area. This is offered mid-February through March, when the snow coverage is greater. This also includes hot chocolate, hot apple cider, equipment and a headlamp.

Family Yoga: Bring your family to the Wellness Center at Stowe Mountain Lodge for some post-skiing stretching, breathing and relaxing before the evening fun begins.

Family Movie Nights:  We will have several family movie nights complete with popcorn, bean bag chairs (cool ones with arms and cup holders) and popular new kids movies

Camp-Out Adventure: After “hiking” to our “camp site” (all on Stowe Mountain Lodge grounds) campers will “set up camp” and put together a simple tent.  Camp games keep children moving, learning skills, and having fun.  Our bridge crossing and night walk will possibly conclude around a campfire cookout with roasted marshmallows, depending on weather.

Circus Camp & Show: Children will be exposed to a series of circus skills, and then be given time to complete a circuit of circus training. After children choose their favorite skill to present, we focus first on practice time and second on preparing and rehearsing our own "circus show".  The evening’s activities would conclude with an imaginative presentation of “the greatest show in Stowe!”

Tracking Where the Vermont Wild Things Are: Learn which wild things are hoppers, bounders, walkers or waddlers and try to remember who is who.    Advanced trackers will measure stride and straddle while our novice trackers play with making their own tracks. We will head out into the wild to take a short tour in search of tracks, and play our wild thing tracking game.

Ice Carving: Make your own ice castle in the Spruce Peak Plaza

Dinners at Cliffhouse Restaurant:  The resort offers regular themed dinners at the Cliffhouse Restaurant, which is located at the top of the gondola. Guests are able to take the gondola to the summit afterhours for a variety of themed dinners throughout the season.
