(Jay, VT)- Jay Peak Resort announced today that it will be hosting the Jay Peak Career Fair on Thursday, April 7th. The fair is a joint effort between the resort, the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, and a committee of North Country Supervisory Union guidance counselors. Event organizers hope to help students learn about job opportunities in the region and to connect area youth with employment opportunities at Jay Peak and the Northeast Kingdom.
“The hope is that this fair inspires students to actively explore education and career options, and to help them see the connection between education, training, and their subsequent appeal to potential employers,” said Michelle LeGault, an Outreach Counselor for VSAC. “It made sense to host it (at Jay) as they have one of the largest, multi-disciplinary projects happening in the state.”
Jay Peak Resort is in the middle of a $200 million, multi-year revitalization project that includes the new Hotel Jay, conference center and indoor waterpark currently under construction, as well as future projects that will encompass residential development along the resort’s golf course. At the fair, students will be able to interact with various resort departments including Construction and Development, Information Technology, Marketing, and DEW, the general contractor of the new hotel project. There will also be booths staffed by a number of design professionals who are subcontractors working on the revitalization effort, along with workshops covering everything from Marketing, to Emergency Response, to Law Enforcement and Security.
“One of the top priorities when we began this initiative was to create jobs in our part of Vermont,” said Jay Peak president Bill Stenger. “Even when the revitalization project is complete a few years from now, the resort is going to need skilled workers to take on the jobs all of the new amenities will create. By being a part of this event, we hope to motivate area students to pursue the skills that will make them appealing to an employer like Jay Peak, the design and engineering firms who are a part of this project, or other employers like the Vermont State Police, and Fire and Rescue.”
The career fair will be in several locations including the Tram Haus Lodge, the Ice Haus and the DEW Construction Office. It will begin at 9:00 AM. Students and schools interested in attending the fair should contact Michele LeGault at 800-660-3561 ext 438 or at email@example.com, or Sharon Gonyaw at firstname.lastname@example.org.
