SKI VERMONT SPECIALTY FOOD TOUR 2011

MONTPELIER, Vt.

Vermont Ski Areas Association, the Agency of Agriculture and the Vermont Maple Foundation have once again teamed up to promote Vermont specialty foods at resorts this winter by offering skiers and riders samples of a variety of treats at scheduled Ski Vermont Specialty Food Days. Many of the dates are in conjunction with large events happening at the ski areas.

Native Vermonter and snowboarder Hannah Teeter’s Maple Blondie ice cream by Ben and Jerry’s will be scooped up at many of the stops along the way. Other well established Vermont landmark products to try and learn more about include Vermont maple syrup, Cabot award-winning cheddar cheese, Westminster gourmet crackers, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters coffees, teas and hot chocolate. Additional smaller scale Vermont specialty food producers Cherry Hill Farm, Vermont Natural Foods, Wooden Spoon Bakery, Yee Yees, Vermont Peanut Butter, Olivia’s Croutons and Two Guys in Vermont soups will join the sampling events for the first time this season to showcase their locally grown assortment of products in Ski Vermont’s farm to plate program.

"Along with skiing and riding, resort guests are thrilled to sample Vermont's unique and tasty products and learn more about the specialty food industry in Vermont," said Parker Riehle, President of Ski Vermont. "The ski and agricultural industries of Vermont have a strong alliance. We're proud that our business community is as well rounded as our cuisine; we want people who visit Vermont to experience our healthy, hearty way of life, on the slopes and at the table of our resort restaurants and within our communities."
