Smugglers' Notch Resort

Smugglers’ Notch Resort in northern Vermont is offering vacationing families the opportunity to enjoy free child care at the Resort’s state-of-the-art slopeside center, Treasures.

Conveniently located in the Resort Village, Treasures features three bright and cheery age-approriate playrooms with toys, books and crafts. Large aquariums of colorful fish in each room engage visiting children. A picket-fenced outdoor playground allows plenty of snow play. “Parents can have a great ski day and rest assured that their children are enjoying their own fun at Treasures with attentive caregivers and new playmates,” says Shelly Schaffer, the director of Treasures.

Treasures is dedicated to the comfort of visiting families with radiant heated floors, ski-in/ski-out convenience for parents wishing to check on their kids, a private nursing room for moms and babies, and dedicated parking.

Families on the Resort’s Club Smugglers’ Classic and Summit Winter vacation packages can enjoy use of Treasures as an inclusion on their package for the Winter season - from December 9, 2011 through April 8, 2012.

The Classic Package includes Smugglers’ all-day ski or snowboard camp for ages 3-5 and 2-hour group lessons for ages 6-17, in addition to condominium lodging, daily lift tickets, family and adult entertainment, and use of the indoor pool and hot tubs, teen centers, and indoor FunZone with games and climbing inflatables. The Summit package includes instructional programs for the entire family - all-day ski or snowboard camp for ages 3-5 and 2-hour group lessons for ages 6 through adult - as well as the inclusions associated with the Classic package.

Families on the Classic and Summit packages will also enjoy a 25 percent discount on Little Rascals on Snow, Treasures' introduction to skiing specially developed to meet the needs of children as young as 2 ½. Children have fun playing dress-up with their ski equipment and sliding around the center on their skis, getting accustomed to their equipment and developing balance skills before heading outside to  slide on the snow.

Treasures has its own conveyor lift and learning slope located in the center’ enclosed play area. Little skiers demonstrate their new skills to their families in a weekly “cookie race” featuring a short course of gates and poles. Families celebrate their little ones’ achievement with hot chocolate and cookies.

“This learn-to-ski option is perfect for young children who may be excited to ski, but are likely not ready for longer instruction,” notes Schaffer. “Our program is very flexible and responsive to their needs, providing plenty of play and rest time intermingled with the excitement of the ski lessons. It’s all about developing enthusiasm for the sport.”
